Vatican Council II
|
The Fathers of Vatican Council II and the Liturgy of the Hours |
When the fathers of the Second Vatican Council sought to reform the Sacred Liturgy, they not only touched upon the Mass, they also ordered that the Liturgy of the Hours be revised. Their hope was that it would become the prayer of the whole People of God again. There are three documents that characterize the conciliar teaching on the Liturgy of the Hours: Sacrosanctum Concilium, the General Instruction of the Liturgy of the Hours, and Laudis Canticum, the document issued by Pope Paul VI legislating the new version of the Liturgy of the Hours, which we still use today. |
